You probably noticed that I’ve been redesigning my blog daily over the past week or so. It was time for a visual upgrade. I’m still playing around with it and am not 100% satisfied with the current look (and probably will never be), so bear with me through The Cheerful Times’ identity crisis! In the meantime, please enjoy the festive animated snowfall that WordPress.com has cutely granted my blog until early January.
It’s with my critical eye that I present to you my new series: Pretty Picks!
There’s something so calming, pleasing and fulfilling about looking at good design. It makes me want to be a better person. “Good design” of course is completely relative — that’s why there are so many different styles out there!
I want to catalog some of my favorites, from a variety of categories, into digestible little posts.
So today I’m kicking off the series with my 5 Kitchen Crushes!
1. Eat Your Greens
I’ve been in love with this kitchen since I found this picture three years ago. I pick quaint and cottage-y over slick modern designs any day!
2. Backsplash Fiesta
I stumbled across this image in an article I was reading a few days ago and made an audible squeal. How fun is that backsplash?! The cabinet color and counter tops are also perfect.
3. Feeling the Warmth
Are you noticing a pattern? I love strong wooden features in kitchens and home design in general. It just feels that much cozier and homier! I especially love the rich, warm palette.
4. Tiny and Bright
The natural light in this kitchen is so lovely! I also love how the wooden chairs are complementary but don’t actually match. I would just feel so welcomed and at home in this self-proclaimed “tiny house,” wouldn’t you?
5. Rustic and Reused
Do I really need to explain why I like this one? With strong wooden features, green accents, a popping backsplash and a cottage-y feel, it combines all of my favorite features. It’s a bonus that the designers worked old/antique pieces into the new look.
So it’s a little obvious that I have a “type.” Pretty kitchens are just one of those things that make me really happy! I could basically live in model kitchen showrooms forever (assuming they’d stock the cabinets and fake fridges for me).
